Dear Fellow D5500 Rotarians,
Every July we celebrate the accomplishments of our member clubs over the past year and pass the gavel to new leadership. Congratulations to the 50 men and women who have rung the Rotary bell to begin their journey with 1394 members during Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta’s 2021-2022 theme “Serve to Change Lives.”
This year offers a unique opportunity to really nurture our members and our clubs: Connect with each other; involve family and build community relationships at home and around the world. Partner with other clubs, organizations, and non-Rotarians to serve those in need. You will not only change their lives but change your own through Rotary Days of service.
As we celebrate 100 years of doing good in southern Arizona, I invite you to challenge me to help you and your clubs to sustain the good practices we learned during the pandemic. Let’s also embrace the lessons of the pandemic to welcome more diversity, equity and the chance to be more inclusive in everything we do.
• Step up, Team up and Follow up with membership, foundation and brand goals
• Apply for a grant to strengthen our Rotary brand: club banners, communications, signage
• Ask the Visioning team to help your club with a 3–5-year action plan
• Invite Interact and Rotaract to be part of your club activities; offer dual memberships to Rotaract members.
• Provide leadership and personal growth opportunities to members; involve everyone in service projects; District grants or how about a global grant?
• Take another look at how your club can help in Rotary’s focus areas, especially our newest cause: protecting the environment
• Recognize member and community contributions
• Ask members of your District Team, AGs for help; there are no dumb questions
I am so pleased to serve as your District Governor and look forward to supporting your biggest dreams ever to help others! Find your connections; the right partners, marshal your resources and have the time of your life as you Serve to Change Lives.
Yours In Rotary,
Henrietta (Hank) Huisking
District Governor 2021-2022
