The documentary film "The Shot Felt ‘Round the World" will play at the Historic Yuma Theatre on Sunday, October 7, 2012. The film is about Dr. Jonas Salk and the team that created the first vaccine for polio. As part of a world wide initiative Rotary International is devoted to the world wide eradi-cation of this horrible disease.

The film takes the viewer through all the pain and triumph of Dr. Salk’s team as they relive the experience through interviews and historic footage. This film is important because the disease is one rarely thought of today because of its long term absence in the United States. Yet other countries have felt and continue to feel the ravages of this disease in their children to this day.

There will be a reception at the Yuma Art Center before the film is shown and a question and answer period following the film. Several dignitaries from the effort to eliminate polio will be in attendance including Dr. Peter Salk who is the eldest son of Dr. Jonas Salk and is the Scientific Director of the Jonas Salk Foundation.

The photographs included in this release are of the exterior of the Yuma Art Center and the interior of the Historic Yuma Theatre done by Nels Akerlund and a photograph of the interior of the Yuma Art Center. More information will be released as the event date approaches.
